Positive India:Kanak Tiwari:
The president of Indian National Congress Rahul Gandhi has resigned after the unexpected landside defeat of his party in the recently conducted Lok Sabha polls. Rahul was amazed more than shocked but the results have never been expected according to his own version. Congress has not been ousted from power for the first time under presidency of Rahul. His grandmother Indira Gandhi has suffered a much more humiliating defeat at the hands of then suddenly formed Janata Party after she lifted the emergency. But defiant and brave Indira fought back and also facing criminal prosecutions alongside political upheavals and ensured that the successor Janata party was thrown out of power even half way of the constitutional term. Rajiv Gandhi also was ousted from power in 1989. He also fought back and was likely to come back to power only two years after the debacle due to his assassination. The party was then led by P.V. Narasimha Rao who successfully ran the prime ministerial term of 5 years.

In the case of Rahul Gandhi, it is a great mystery and also a likely tragedy which may be unfolded only in future. He issued a press statement elaborating the reasons and the background of his resignation. His main thrust has been about the ways and means adopted by the rival BJP to annex power and retain it for the next full term. He accused the government of using all administrative machineries for the political purposes to ensure forming a BJP government. But he did not elaborate the pathology of defeat in terms of drift under his leadership of the political ideology of his predecessors.

On the contrary first time Lok Sabha member of TrinMool Congress a young Mahua Moitra amazed the parliament and the political pundits across the country and even beyond its territory. Trin Mool Congress MP made a short, sharp and absolutely well articulated political speech which took house by surprise. Even a massive mandate to the favour of the party found it difficult to counter her arguments in the reply speeches. A well educated, duly experienced and adept in the art of communicative skills, suave and sober looking Moitra achieve the object of otherwise looking hesitating opposition.

She did not cry about outcome of any election results but welcomed the massive mandate in favour of BJP with reservations which according to her though imbalanced yet gave an opportunity to the slim opposition to be more responsive to the cause of the people and demonstrate their agony in a constructive way to mend ways of the governance.

Congress is certainly a much bigger party then the TMC. The draftsman of the resignation letter of Rahul Gandhi appeared to be of a narrow vision. They ought to have clinched larger issues of the plight of the people, of communal violence in public places, of economy, of joblessness and so on and so forth. But they appeared to mainly concerned with the electoral defeat of the Congress demonstrating various factors including of politicization of the constitutional institutions. But the net result again would be as if the defeat of Congress party in the elections would be disaster to the Indian democracy. Thus the basic communication was made primarily to the Congress party workers and in a diluted manner to the public at large. It is a different issue whether any other leader would be able and effective to lead the second largest party of the country which is otherwise the oldest organization having ruled over the country from more than 5 decades.

Mahua raised some salient issues clearly mentioning the lynching of the minorities in brought day light even on public streets. She attacked the concept of opposition to the plurality and multilingual culture of the country. She also said that unholy alliance of religion and politics will lead the county only to disaster. She even emphasized that in twenty first century in the biggest democracy of the world, intellectualism has been put to oblivion. She quoted from eminent Hindi poet Ramdhari Singh Dinkar as also from Urdu shayar Rahat Indori rather very aptly though very shrewdly to win her point. Mahua lambasted the ruling party to misuse the media through some corporates only to project the image of one person and one party at the cost of the taxpayers money. She openly asked the government to provide the details in this regard to the public at large. She pin pointed her arguments and rather formulated them and also ensured that her speech may be recorded and deliberated as an academic speech as if being given in a university.

It is rather uncomfortable to appreciate the tenets of arguments interwoven in the resignation letter of Rahul Gandhi limiting the entire issue to the unfortunate defeat of his party in contrast to the maiden speech by young Mahua Moitra belonging to a smaller party but raising magnificent issues of constitutional importance.
