Positive India: As per reliable sources Narendra Modi Govt is about to replace MCI with new amended NMC Bill, which is a long awaited reform of medical education in India.
In the new amended NMC Bill, there will not be an “Exit Test”. Now the final year MBBS exam will be considered as the eligibility test to prescribe Allopathy. This test will be conducted on All India basis.
National Medical Commission will be headed by 25 members, who will be elected under the chairmanship of Cabinet Secretary. Out of 25 members, 21 will be doctors.
In the new bill, there will not be a “bridge course”, which was allowing “Limited Allopathy” after completion of bridge course by Ayurvedic, Unani and Homeopathy doctors. The Central Govt has left this provision to be decided by respective states.
In amended Bill, 50% seats in private and deemed universities, fee will be decided by govt. Earlier, it was 40%. The remaining 50% will be regulated by college management. Still IMA has reservations as it says that NMC is an attempt to demolish a democratic system. IMA says that NMC will crush both independence and morale of the doctors.
Is it so that IMA is creating problem? The answer is that problem is created by some doctors with vested interests. They are simply opposing because they have started doing business not service. If govt will not take steps to cleanse the healthcare system, doctors will simply hijack the health of India.
