In the wake of ongoing water shortage in Chhattisgarh, WRD secretary IAS.Sonmani Borah has initiated an idea of Geo Tagging and Grading of all stop dams, irrigation tanks and anicuts available in Chhattisgarh state. He has launched a special drive to reduce water shortage by strengthening and increasing water storage capacity, repairing and desilting of ponds. Mr. Borah has stressed upon three key areas of water management, its conservation and public participation to save water. To realise this vision, an extensive awareness campaign has been launched by WRD to make aware people about the importance of water conservation. Grading system has been introduced to utilise irrigation potential of CG to the optimum level. Soon, a special drive for water sustainability, its conservation and management will be launched, coupled with Green Cover, by CM Dr Raman Singh and minister Brijmohan Agrawal. The main aim is to “save water” with the help of public participation.
Sonmani Borah told that WRD will be focussing on Chhattisgarh’s 3000 ponds, 43 barrages and 750 stop dams/anicuts. To make this drive a success, survey will be done with the help of Geo Tagging so that real facts should come out and WRD could prepare executable plans to reduce water shortage in CG.
