Hybrid TEVAR Procedure at NH MMI Narayana Superspeciality Hospital has saved a Man’s Life for the fist time in Chhattisgarh.
In a remarkable medical feat, a patient’s life was saved through a complex hybrid cardiac procedure at NH MMI Narayana, Raipur. The patient arrived at the hospital with a sudden onset of chest and back pain, prompting the medical team to conduct a comprehensive evaluation of his condition.
Under the guidance of Dr. P. K. Hari Kumar – Senior Cardiac Surgeon, and Dr. Sunil Gouniyal – Sr. Interventional Cardiologist, the patient underwent a series of imaging studies, including CT angiogram. These tests revealed that the patient had developed a tear in the aorta, the largest blood vessel in the human body responsible for supplying blood to all organs, including the brain. This condition is known as aortic dissection.
To address the critical situation, the medical team at NH MMI Narayana Superspeciality Hospital, Raipur, performed an emergency complex hybrid procedure. The procedure involved a combination of Debranching of Arch vessels and TEVAR (Thoracic Endovascular Aortic Repair).
TEVAR is a minimally invasive technique that involves placing a stent in the aorta to seal the tear. This approach allowed the medical team to avoid opening the chest and ensured the preservation of blood supply to the upper part of the body, including the brain. This complex hybrid procedure was one of the rarest procedures performed in Chhattisgarh.
The success of the procedure can be attributed to the expertise of the Cardiac Sciences team: Dr. Sunil Gouniyal – Senior Interventional Cardiologist and Dr. P. K. Hari Kumar – Sr. Cardiac Surgeon, along with Dr. Sumanta Shekhar Padhi (Sr. Interventional Cardiologist), Dr. Snehil Goswami (Cardiologist), Dr. Jinesh Jain (Cardiologist) and Dr. Sumit Gupta. The entire Cardia Sciences team of NH MMI, skillfully placed the stent, effectively closing the rupture in the aorta.
The cardiac anesthesia team, comprising, Dr. Rakesh Chand, Dr. Arun Andappan, and Dr. Dharmesh Lad, provided valuable assistance throughout the procedure. Their expertise and dedication ensured the patient’s safety and comfort during the operation.
Mr. Tapani Ghosh – Facility Director of NH MMI Narayana Superspeciality Hospital, expressed his congratulations to the entire team for their outstanding work. He emphasized, “complex cardiac procedures are routinely performed at NH MMI Narayana Superspeciality Hospital, Raipur, ensuring the hospital’s commitment to providing advanced medical care to the community.”
Thanks to the expertise of the medical team and the cutting-edge facilities available at NH MMI, the patient’s life was saved. The complex hybrid procedure not only avoided the need for invasive surgery but also resulted in reduced blood loss, shorter hospital stays, and faster recovery times. The successful outcome of this case demonstrates the hospital’s expertise to delivering superior healthcare services in the field of cardiac care.
